Herbert’s Story
Childhood
Dreams
Herbert "June" Penson Jr. was born on June 17, 1921 to Elsa Wilbert and Herbert Penson Sr in Mooringsport, Louisiana. He attended St. Paul Elementary School while living with his grandparents, Meager and Bishop "Bish" Wilbert.
During his childhood years, he developed a love for baseball, admiring players like Willie Mays, Jackie Robinson and Satchel Paige. June grew to become a great short stop and enjoyed playing baseball with his brother, Jake Harmon and friend, Sonny Gibson.

While not playing baseball, you could find June fishing, hunting and spending time with his aunts Anna, Mary and Marietta and uncle John.
